September 2008
What a wet and windy race! Despite the weather, we had twice the number of runners than last year, and everyone finished without injury. Well done everyone! Our thanks to all the wet and cold marshallers for bravely sticking to their posts. The photos will be on the website for free download shortly.
August 2008
We now have nearly a full complement of marshallers, timekeepers etc., but if you'd like to help we still need you, contact the organiser.
We now have catering at the start and finish for runners and spectators, thanks to Lin Maurice.
If you are travelling to the race by scheduled flights, we are advised that they are getting very full and you need to book soon.
Le Cocq's Stores have generously agreed to donate water and bananas for the race. They are also supplying us with eco friendly jute goody bags and chocolate at a discount. Thank you Noel!
July 2008
Lots of entries are coming in by post and web. Unfortunately we are having to cancel the junior race due to problems with obtaining insurance - Health and Safety strikes another victory for child obesity.
June 2008
Miss Alderney 2008, Adele Woodruff (centre with her maids of honour) has agreed to start the race and give out the prizes. What an incentive to win, chaps!
May 2008
It looks like being a very busy race weekend, and both Blue Island and Aurigny are saying that flights to Alderney are getting heavily booked. We advise you to make your flight and hotel bookings as soon as possible.
The timetable for the ferry from France is now published, and the good news is that on race day the "Victor Hugo" sails from Dielette near Cherbourg at 09:00, arrives Alderney at 08:45 (local time) and departs Alderney at 19:15 allowing a great day out on the Island for our French runners. Parfait!
Apr 2008
A number of runners have booked to stay in the Braye Beach Hotel, which is now full for the weekend of the race. We urge you all to make your hotel reservations as soon as possible, the island has a good range of accommodation, but bed numbers are limited.
Mar 2008
Entries are now starting to come in from the Channel Islands and the UK mainland and it looks like we'll have a record entry this year.
Feb 2008
The States of Alderney have generously agreed to part sponsor the race, and their money is being devoted to promotion of entries from outside the Island, to boost our much needed tourism.
Jan 2008
SMK Sports have generously donated five spot prize vouchers of £5 each. These can be redeemed in their shop or through their website (free p&p). Let's support those shops that support our running!
We have been given a large trophy by David Clark (London Marathon 2:16). He won this cup in the 1980's and it will now become the perpetual trophy inscribed with the winner of the Half Marathon each year.
Our new additional sponsor, DietGlue, has agreed that in addition to cash funding, they will donate
a copy of their computer diet program worth £20 in every goody bag. For you skinny runners, this can be transferred to a friend or relative!
We are negotiating with the Alderney Band to play for us en route - more on this later.
Dec 2007
We have negotiated another sponsor for the race, DietGlue. More on this next month.
Nov 2007
We are now accepting entries on line, see entries page for details
Oct 2007
We have been promised an entry of 10 pilots and engineers from the airline AirMed, flying themselves to Alderney in a 10 seater Caravan aircraft.
Sep 2007
Following a successful Alderney Half Marathon and 10k road race 2007, Graeme Neal, the organiser for the last few years, handed over his post to Rod Paris.
Rod said "I'm honoured to be asked to continue this great Alderney tradition. I particularly want to see more Alderney residents running in 2008, and I will be starting a recruitment drive". Rod is a keen runner, entering a couple of races each month, and he understands well the needs of the competitors.
The official Alderney website also has a wealth of information about the beautiful island of Alderney.
